It is irritating to the eyes and respiratory tract, and may cause headache and narcosis (stupor), de-fatting effect on skin and may cause drying and cracking, anemia with leukocytosis and damage to liver and kidneys.

It is advisable to wash thoroughly after handling.

It is found in after shave lotions, cologne, perfume, shampoo, nail color ,nail enamel remover, fabric softener, dishwashing liquid.
